Mao Miyamoto is a Boston-based freelance medical illustrator and science communicator. Originally from Japan, she received a Master of Science in Biology at Kobe University. Mao came to the United States to expand her interest in medical artwork. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, one of the four accredited program for medical illustration in North America, and certified as a medical illustrator by the Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators.
Having a strong background in biological research, Mao specializes in 3D modeling, animation, and illustration to depict the aesthetics of science behind each idea. Her medical illustration services include human anatomy art, medical legal illustration, journal cover, and book illustrations. In the past she worked with researchers, educators, surgeons, physicians, public health officials, and medical legal lawyers.
